Press release - 24 Heures du Mans Moto

The AFC Micro and RIS have been responsible for the events' timing for almost 20 years. A successful partnership recognised the world over by the internationally renowned event organisers, as much on 2 wheels as on 4. This year, they have at their disposal a world first for the bikes: the fitting of a permanent transponder allowing the automatic identification of the rider. Explication !

Up until now, a single transponder was fixed to every bike in order to obtain the bike's lap times and position, which, in 1990 replaced the good old manual system.

A second electronic box was added in 2002. In 2006, the innovation comes in the form of a third transponder fitted, this time, to the riders themselves. A small plastic unit is fixed to each rider's armband.

On the practical side of things, this ingenious system, designed by the French company Chronelec, allows us to have, in real time, the name of the rider on the track. Up until now, only the bike make and model was displayed. From now on, the name of the rider will also be appear, allowing us to have a more comprehensive understanding of the race. All this information will then be released through the different channels: TV or the event's official website.

The AFC and RIS have once again demonstrated their innovative ability. In 2006, the Franco-Belgian association will certainly be entrusted with the timings at several renowned events, like the Tour Auto or the 24 Heures du Mans.

2006-04-20 | 24 Heures du Mans Moto - Edition 2006

Since 2002, Chronelec is present at 24 Heures du Mans Moto. The edition 2006 will remain marked by Chronelec's innovation with its transponders Elite 2006 (lithium-ion battery) and automatic rider's identification. (evolution of the system already presented in 2005)

Each rider has an armband (blue, white, red, green) in radio link with the transponder. All armband have an unique number assigned to a transponder. For example, armbrands number #3010-1, #3010-2, #3010-3 are assigned to the transponder #3010, armbrands number #3020-1, #3020-2, #3020-3 are assigned to the transponder #3020.

When an armbrand is near a transponder during several seconds, a data exchange by radio frequency is carried out between the armband and the transponder. If the number of armband is assigned to the transponder, it is able to change the unit number of the transponder. The #3010-1 armband will change the #3010 transponder into #3011, the armband #3030-4 will change the #3030 transponder into #3034... The rider is identified in the pit line exit.

The speed measurement at the end of the straight line before the curve Dunlop (290 to 300 km/H) are raised by a Chronelec decoder equipped with two loops of 60 cm width.

Protime LS Transponder

Timekeepers from the Picardy Motorcyclyst League were very satisfied to use the Protime LS transponder for their first race of the season. In spite of very bad climatic conditions, timing was carried out without hitch.

The Picardy League, as other leagues in France has chosen the Protime LS system completely adapted to their races. The transponder use is essential to the success of an event.
